Transitioning into a Golden Age - One Public Health Nurse's Journey: September 2019

I came across an article on Labor Day, https://www.thoughtco.com/labor-day-purpose-and-history-4052473, in my ponderings both personal and global. I decided about a month ago to just take the whole week off as I've been working too much as a full-time nurse, a functionally single mom, and as a survivor of the times we live in. The article is a decent little read, a reminder of why we celebrate Labor Day in the United States. I have no respect for labor unions, but I do revere the ideas behind them. Like everything else, labor unions have been weaponized against the public. However, the foundational ideas that led to them are still honorable and serve us well--the basic concept of the need to unite as regular people, draw lines, set healthy boundaries for ourselves or else we will be treated as slaves. This is in fact being done in communist and socialist (aka communist lite) countries. Even in my state of Commifornia, this has been happening for decades in increments. Merely maintaining a roof over one's head in my state, Nancy Pelosi's state, requires working long hours in barely tolerable conditions for regular working class people. The outrageously rising numbers of homeless in this state is a testament to this fact.

Segwaying into another topic but highly related, a recent visit to the allopathic medical professional for renewal of my single prescription of sumatriptan brought up the issue of hypertension again, which didn't really surprise me. Stress is a killer. Besides being aware of a highly organized crime syndicate that has infected every aspect of life on this planet, workplace-related stress has also been affecting my blood pressure. On the typical day, the moment I hit the floor at work I am bombarded with dozens of requests I must triage and prioritize, then remember and complete in a timely manner, multitasking nearly every moment of my time on the clock and delegating what I can to an ever-changing and mostly rag-tag team of nurse aides. We have only 2 or 3 aides who've been there over 15 years. The turnover in this industry is noteable, but in my particular workplace it is phenomenal. Most of the staff are burnt out from just regularly working 16-hour shifts. About ninety percent of my aides, the staff nurses, and even the Director of Nurses smoke cigarettes, a potent neurotoxin. So, depending on assistance let alone ethical behavior or plain sanity is sketchy. Really no surprise my blood pressure was starting to creep up despite all my herbal and other materialistic interventions. I had forgotten to do simple things like breathe and let go.

The hypertension has made it so that I must regularly take time out to do conscious diaphragmatic breathing. I had forgotten about this or dismissed its importance in all my supplementation and organic cooking for good health. That and walks, Yoga & Chi Kung. These things take some time and effort. This recent time off has become all about reincorporating these activities back into daily life so I don't need to start on lopressor or losartan or whatever else the doctor I saw would prescribe. This dude was obese, dressed all in black, with a pasty-white face and snow-white hair--looking more like a mortician than a GP. Just looking at him inspired motivation.

The time off has given me a little more freedom to catch my breath, organize the gems, and polish this post for a shiny finish before the publishing. This is my joy, my little journalistic mark on the world, sharing what I perceive to be some of the best of the alternative news headlines and commentary.
